100 Meter Dash
Wheeling Park phenom Torrence Walker set a new State Meet Record in the trials with an 10.50. That will stand as the All-Time Best State Meet Performance and the All-Time Best Class AAA State Meet Performance. Walker scored a 10.59 in the finals but had to move to the front late to get the win. If Walker is the present, then the future is Freshman teammate Jerrae Hawkins, Jr. He ran 10.73 in the trials, which is the 8th Best All-Time Class AAA State Meet Performance. He went 10.75 in the finals for 2nd and actuallly led at least half the race. South Charleston's Bruce Williams was easily 3rd in 11.05. Jefferson Freshman Keyshawn Robinson was 4th in 11.32, just nipping Capital's Nadir Price who was 4th in 11.33. The next 3 finishers all recorded the same time of 11.37, but with Parkersburg South's Levi Rice getting 6th by a single thousandth of a second.

800 Meter Run
Parkersburg's Keegan Barnette led the field through lap 1 in 57 seconds. Teammate Franklin Angelos was in 2nd, followed by a trio of Cabell Midland runners. I'm not sure the order of them but it was Carter McKenna, Cooper Gibson, and Ben Parker. Jefferson's Justin Gottlieb was in 6th. Barnette would hold the lead throughout and take the win in 1:59.34. Angelos had fallen back to 3rd, but moved back to 2nd in the last 50 and almost caught Barnette, scoring a 1:59.68 and giving Parkersburg a 1-2 finish. McKenna would take 3rd in 2:00.09 with Gottlieb moving up to 4th in 2:00.57. University's Ryan Blohm moved up to 5th in 2:01.73 and Gibson held 6th at 2:02.42. The 1-2 finish pretty much wrapped up the team title for Parkersburg. It was one of the huge events for Parkersburg that led to the team title. Expecting the 1600 to take a little starch out of them, I pegged them for 5 points. They got 18.

On the 3rd leg, Wheeling Park continued to lead with Jefferson in 2nd and Buckhannon-Upshur up to 3rd. Cabell Midland was in 4th with Washington 5th and Morgantown in 6th. On the final leg, Wheeling Park would continue to pull away for the easy win. However, they would be disqualified along with Washington, who finished 3rd, for "backing out of the zone." There were 3 DQ's for that at the State Meet(s) this year. So, we end with Jefferson's team of Justin de Moulin, Harris Kester, Kyle de Nobel, and Justin Gottlieb taking the win in 3:32.39.
